Charles Rogers Obituary Charles W. Rogers, Jr., 85, Major, USMC (retired), died January 7, 2021. His loving and spiritual wife of 59 years, Rachel W. Rogers, 84, died on January 10, 2021. Charles and Rachel met in 1959 on a blind date in Quantico,VA and were married in 1961. Major Charles W. Rogers, Jr. was one of the first black men to go through Naval Flight Training as an officer. Rachel was a member and trustee of the Church of God, and Saints of Christ in Suffolk, VA. They are survived by their four children, Harry Billups (Toni) of Dallas, GA, Charles W. Rogers, III of Chesapeake, VA, Robyn Rogers of Suffolk, VA, and Annette Batiste of Winchester, VA; seven grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Charles is survived by brothers, Earl and Joe Taylor; sister, Delores Randall; and many nieces and nephews. Rachel is survived by her sister, Mary Carter; brother, Charles Ward; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to St. Jude's, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Graveside services will be held at A. G.
