Benjamin Vernon (Ben) Rideout 27 APR 1948 - 17 DEC 2015 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Benjamin V. Rideout FRANKLIN- Benjamin Vernon Rideout died December 17, 2105. He was born on April 27, 1948 to the late Robert Rideout, Sr and Alma Rideout. He is survived by two brothers, Bob and Bruce; and one sister, Ruth. "Ben," as he was affectionately known, graduated in 1967 from Windsor High School. He graduated from the University of Miami, where he was vice president of his class and vice president and president of his college fraternity: Mu Sigma Ta, was a member of the First Baptist Church Fort Lauderdale, Florida and a former member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Carrsville, Virginia. Ben was employed by International Charter Airlines for fourteen months as an in-flight instructor traveling all over the world. He was the former owner of the American Royalty Limousine Service and the Royalty Valet Parking Service for the Marriott Hotel Richmond, Virginia. He was manager of the Holland-Rideout Funeral Home in Franklin. Ben was very active serving Isle Of Wight County. He served as chair of the Isle Of Wight County Southern Development Committee being instrumental in the design and installation of the county sign located at the intersection of Highways 58/258; planting of flowers and trees at the entrance of International Paper. He was a member of the Isle Of Wight Commission On Aging, Beautification Committee, Crime Commission and the Camptown School Park Committee. In 2011, Ben ran for the Isle Of Wight County Board of Supervisors and carried the Camptown and Carrsville voting districts. He was endorsed by the Black communities, the Daily Press Newspaper in Newport News, Virginia. He was a representative with the Camptown Coalition and was one of the few Whites to stand up in the Black churches in his voting district in favor of returning the name, Georgie Tyler, to the middle school. Ben enjoyed fishing on his boat, traveling and buying homes in Florida and remodeling them to bring them up to first class standards. He also enjoyed growing exotic lilies and plants, which he shared with the elderly and his neighbors.
