He was formerly employed by the Virginia Department of Corrections, Walters Unit, and Newport News Shipbuilding. He was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Purdy Lodge No. 170. AF&AM. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hazel Raiford Rhodes; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Michell Reed of Handsom, Miss Emily Esther Rhodes of Suffolk; a son, Michael G. Rhodes of Windsor; a sister, Mrs. Eva R. Butler of Windsor; and a brother, Rawlston Rhodes of Carrsville. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Colosse Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. Mitchell C. Lucky. Burial with Masonic rites will be conducted in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the TriCounty Mentally Retarded Association.
