He served for more than a year in the European theater in World War II. He was a native of Southampton County, and had resided here for the last seven years. He was a son of Albert Thomas and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Galtress Raiford. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alton Rudd of Norfolk, three brothers, Francis and Rudolph, also of Norfolk and Randolph Raiford, U.S.M.C. Private Raiford was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church of Franklin. The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson Streets, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted Thursday [5 September 1946] afternoon at 1 o'clock.
