Eulah Virginia (Eula) Raiford 10 APR 1895 - 1 MAR 1988 Mrs. Eula B. West ZUNI - Mrs. Eula Raiford Branch West, 92, of Route 1, Box 248, died Tuesday at Leigh Memorial Hospital in Norfolk. She was born in Southampton County. She was a member of Corinth Friends Meetinghouse, where she was a ladies' aide, pianist for several years and Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. She became a free-lance artist at the age of 70 and won many awards and prizes including: Award of Distinction from Walter Cecil Rawls Library and Place of Prominence Award at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. She was also a member and faithful worker of Southampton County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Branch Rickerson of Virginia Beach; a stepson, Howard West of Newport News; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ruby Lowe of Wakefield and Mrs. Jessie Phipps of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Scott of Franklin and Mrs. Viola Thompson of Williamsburg; a brother, Fred Raiford of Ivor; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Corinth Friends Meetinghouse by the Revs. Cafer Marley, Hershel Hill and York Pharr. Burial will follow in Millfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
