Funeral will be 11 am Tuesday at St Luke United Methodist Church with burial in Buffalo Cemetery. He was a graduate of Central Methodist College of Fayette Mo. where he received his AB and DD degrees in 1925 He was a graduate of Yale Divinity School in New Haven Conn where he received his BD degree in 1928 He was a pastor in Missouri before coming to North Carolina in 1935 and preached actively for 45 years He was pastor of the following churches: Horn United Methodist Church in Clayton, Ann Street United Methodist Church in Beaufort, Hayes-Barton United Methoidst Church in Raleigh, irst United Methodist Church in Henderson, Haymont United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Steele Street United Methodist Church in Sanford Queen Street United Methodist Church in Kinston irst United Methodist Church in Mebane. He was active in the Rotary Club for over 40 years'and was a trustee of High Point College and a member of the NC Conference Board of Higher Education and the President’s Society of Central Methodist College. Surviving are widow, Mrs Marion Smith Potter; daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Louise Potter Davis, of Springfield, Va; sons, William Stanley Potter Jr of Roanoke Rapids, Frank Grafton and James Richard Potter of Charlotte; sister, Mrs Mary Helen Wesslar of Illinois.
