ROANOKE RAPIDS- Peggy Ann Mitchell Porch, 72, died Friday, May 18, 2012, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Peggy was bom in Halifax County, June 1. 1939, to the late William Henry Mitchell and Lucy Moore Mitchell. She grew up in Weldon and during that time, attended Weldon Baptist Church. She was a weaver in the textile industry with JP Stevens Bibb mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Henry "Gun-Gun" Shelton; brothers, Roscoe Mitchell, Edward "Bubba" Mitchell, Wallace Mitchell, William "Bump" Mitchell and Franklin D. "Boo-Boo" Mitchell; sisters, Susie Ellas and Jeanette Mitchell; niece, Joann Simpson; and nephew, Edward "Lucky" Palmer Jr.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Tammie S. Shelton, of Roanoke Rapids; sisters-in-law, Mabelle Mitchell and Rosa Mitchell, both of Roanoke Rapids, and Shirley Mitchell, of Virginia; and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Shelton.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a m., Monday, May 21, by the Rev. Michael Mooneyham at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon. Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids is handling arrangements and online condolences may be sent to www.hockadayfs.com.
