Linda Poates Obituary Linda Peele Ward Poates January 8, 1943 - December 18, 2019 Courtland - Linda Peele Ward Poates, 76, widow of Calvin O. Poates, passed away December 18, 2019 in her home with her family by her side. A native of Courtland, she was a daughter of the late Rowland and Carmen Price Peele and was also predeceased by four siblings Marjorie Peele Pope, Charles Price Peele, Chapman Donald Peele, and Nettie Lee Gurganus. Linda was a 1961 graduate of Southampton High School and attended Leigh Memorial School of Nursing. She was a resident of Atlanta, GA for 18 years and was a Mary Kay Consultant, a Century 21 Real Estate Agent, and a Personnel Director for Snelling and Snelling before returning home to Courtland in 1989. Linda was a former owner of Danny s Restaurant in Courtland, a member of Courtland Junior Women s Club and Franklin Christin Women s Club. Linda was a member of St. Luke s Episcopal Church. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Allison Peele Chaucer (Joseph McVicker) and Melissa Lee Israel (Rusty Israel); two sons, Michael Sean Ward (Sita Monti) and Timothy Patrick Ward (Allison Ramey); two sisters, Carmenette Jervis and Rana Gray Crosby; and nine grandchildren, Aubrey Ward, Carley Westenfeld, Saul, Keenan, and Avery Chaucer, Nicholas, Hunter, Sullivan and Walker Lewis; two great grandchildren, Dean and Drew Westenfeld; and her dear friend Graham Pulley. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 4, 2020 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. James W. Browder, III officiating. The burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
