VA., Oct. 18 - Clarence O, Griggs, a young farmer of Nansemond county, shot and killed his mother. Mrs. Cora Griggs, widow of the late James Griggs, at their home near Myrtle Wednesday night about dusk, mistaking her for a chicken hawk. which had lately been catching chickens on the Griggs farm. Thinking that his motile was in the cook room and hearing a chicken squawking in the chicken yard, Clarence went to the front door and taking his shotgun emptied its contents in the direction of the noise, the entire load striking Mrs Griggs, who was feeding the chickens, in the neck and face.
