He was a native of Suffolk and was in the lumber business for many years and has since retired from International Paper Company as a sawyer. He was also an independent process server. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church and the Men's Bible Class; he served on the Board of Ushers, Board of Deacons and was a member of the Men's Fellowship. He was a volunteer for numerous years with the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad. Jerry was a 2nd degree black belt and a Karate teacher for many years. He was the son of the late Zachariah Perry. Survivors include his mother, Estelle Bradshaw Perry; sons, Jerry M. Perry Jr. and Newman Perry; grandchildren, Heather Perry and Connor Perry; a sister, Brenda P. Davis, all of Suffolk; and brothers, John Frederick Perry of Suffolk and George Earl Perry of Virginia Beach. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Liberty Spring Christian Church.
