L. D. Penland, 98, died at a local hospital at a late hour Thursday morning, 12 October 1933, after an illness of ten months. Mr. Penland had made his home in this city for a number of years, living with his son, C. H. Penland, at 648 McCallie Avenue.

He is survived by his wife, six sons: W. M. of Newport, H. M. of Frisco, Texas; C. H. of Chattanooga; James and Hiram of Knoxville; and Oliver Penland of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Matilda Price of Greenville, Texas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Chapman's.
