Joseph Patton Obituary Joseph Ross Patton of Suffolk, VA Joseph Ross Patton, 84, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at his home. Joe s professional career began in 1952 after proudly serving his country as a US Marine. He joined Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company where he had a long successful and fulfilling career which enabled him to retire in 1987. Joe became an active deacon at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church and served as a Chaplain at St. Vincent de Paul, both in Medford New Jersey. After baptizing, counseling and marrying hundreds of Roman Catholic parishioners while a deacon at St Mary s Catholic Church in Medford, NJ - including several of his own children and grandchildren, Deacon Joe retired in 2002 due to Alzheimer s. In his spare time, Joe was past President of the Philadelphia Chapter of Life Underwriters, past President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of Life Underwriters and past President of the Centennial Pines Club. Joe was an avid private pilot, skydiver, scuba diver, skier, runner and tennis player. He was also a member of several sport and social clubs. Lastly, he had a passion for fishing and fly tying, including his past Presidency of the Atlantic Salt Water Fly Tyers Association, his membership in the St Mary s River Atlantic Salmon Association and numerous fly fishing trips to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, Canada. Joe leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Helen; 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren all of whom he taught the love of the outdoors, wildlife conservation, and many of his sportsman skills. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:00 a. m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, Portsmouth, VA, followed by U. S. Marine Corps Honors. Burial will be held at a later date.
