Virginia Leigh Giles Owney 12 MAY 1918 - 28 MAR 1983 Virginia Owney Virginia Giles Owney, the mother of Phyllis Perkins and the sister of Dorothy Lassiter, both of Williamsburg, died March 28 at her home in Ivor after a lengthy illness. She was 64. Mrs. Owney was born in Isle of Wight County. She was a member of Ivor Baptist Church, a charter member of Ivor Rescue Squad and was formerly employed as a nurses aide. In addition to her daughter and her sister in n Williamsburg, she is survived by her husband, Joseph Wilson Owney; two other daughters, Carolyn 0. Carr and Brenda Joyner, both of Ivor; a son, Joseph W. Owney of Suffolk; another sister, Audrey Chapman of Windsor; two brothers, W. Randolph Giles of Ivor and Seward Giles of Sedley; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted last Wednesday at Purviance Funeral Home in Wakefield by the Rev. J. Lytle Buckingham. Burial was in Ivor Cemetery. The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Ivor Rescue Squad.
