James Mayo Owney

IVOR- James Mayo Owney, 80, died in a Newport News hospital Sunday after illness of 18 months. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of John T. and Mrs. Mattie Bristow Owney. He was a member of Rocky Hock Methodist Church. He was the widower of Mrs. Emma Johnson Owney and was a retired carpenter. 

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. P. P. Rolley and Mrs. Jesse 0. Gay of Waverly; three sons, Waverly H. of Smith, Joseph Wilson Owney of Ivor and James C. Owney of Waverly; a brother, Manaleus B. Owney of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service will be conducted in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, today at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. L. P. Bland of Wakefield Methodist Church the Rev. Bryan W. Holloman addling Ivor Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Rocky Hock Church Cemetery, Surry County. Virginia Woodland widow.
