Helen Nurney Obituary Helen N. Nurney August 23, 1922 - March 23, 2015 Capron - Helen Newsome Nurney, 92, of Capron, VA, died March 23, 2015. She was born August 23, 1922, the second child of the late Joseph Randolph Newsome and Annie Munford Newsome. Mrs. Nurney was predeceased by her husband, William Henry Nurney; her beloved daughter, Kay Nurney Pope (2014); sisters, Anise N. Williams and Josie N. Gay; brother, Joseph Randolph Newsome, Jr.; and son-in-law, James C. Vick. Mrs. Nurney is survived by her sister, Erma N. Scott; daughter, Linda N. Vick; son, William H. Nurney, Jr. and friend, Diane F. Bradshaw; son-in-law, James D. Pope, Jr.; six grandchildren, James D. Pope, III, and wife, Robin, Carla V. Kinyo, and husband, Jeff, William H. Nurney, III, Joseph W. Pope, and wife, Suzanne, James Randolph Nurney, and wife, Missy, and Joanne N. Bryant; and eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Nurney was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church where she was a trustee and The Vries Carter Bible Class, serving as secretary for over 25 years. She was also a member of Newsoms Ruritan Club. She worked at Bryant and Tankard Insurance Agency in Boykins for many years and later opened her own crop insurance agency. A funeral will be held at 11 AM Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Newsoms United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Newsoms United Methodist Church or a rescue squad of your choice in Southampton County.
