Martha Beale, News-Herald Correspondent 

FRANKLIN-Mrs. Martha McLane Beale, 78, died Wednesday night in Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Southampton County, and the widow of John Etheldred Beale. She was a long-time correspondent for the Suffolk News-Herald and a member of the Franklin Baptist Church. 

Surviving are three sons, John E. Beale Jr., and Lloyd McLane Beale, both of Franklin; and James Robert Beale of Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. Jonnie Thorne of Franklin; Mrs. Virginia Futrell of Newport News; and nine grandchildren. 

A funeral will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in the Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Beale, 512 Walnut Street. Wright Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

FRANKLIN—Mrs. Martha McLane Beale, 78, died Wednesday night in Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Southampton County and the widow of John Etheldred Beale. She was a long-time correspondent for the Suffolk News-Herald and a member of the Franklin Baptist Church.
