Additionally, she worked within the medical field by joining the Ladies Auxiliary of the Nansemond Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, where she was a captain of the original First Aid Team. She held several local and regional offices within the Ladies Auxiliary which culminated in her moving through the chairs and ultimately being elected State President of that organization. She was a Nationally Registered EMT, Shock/Trauma Tech, IV Tech, and an EMT Instructor. She enjoyed her church family at Bethany Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an Elder, sang in the Chancel Choir (she was a wonderful soprano) and played handbells. She was the consummate mother, grandmother, and sister - always checking in to make sure everyone was happy and healthy. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she was delighted to be called "Gram." She had a sweet tooth, loved strawberries, the Hallmark Channel, and was a voracious reader, a trait which she instilled in all three of her children.
