Herbert Lynch Obituary Herbert L. "Joe" Lynch, 82, of Carrollton, VA passed away Monday, July 10, 2023. He was the son of the late Herbert Lynch and Sarah K. Lynch. He is predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Annie D. Lynch and a son, Herbert "Tank" Lynch Jr. As a youngster, his uncle called him "Jody Blonde" and that became "Joe" for the rest of his life. He went to grade school at St. Paul's Catholic School in Portsmouth, VA. After the family moved to Nansemond County, he went to Chuckatuck High School in 1959. He joined the U. S. Army, where he proudly served his country in Germany, France and Vietnam for eight years as an E-5 specialist. Upon his return from Vietnam from the Army after which, he went to work at C&P Telephone Company as a lineman and retired in 1992 as a Supervisor. Joe or Pop, as he was sometimes called, was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved being on the water. He was a great cook and grill master with BBQ. He was helpful to anyone who asked him for a favor. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joanne H. Lynch of Carrollton, VA; son, Richard A. Lynch (Linda); grandchildren, Richard A. Lynch Jr. of Suffolk, VA and Carolann L. Justice (Ryan) of Ivor, VA; great granddaughter, Paisleigh F. Justice and fianc of "Tank", Tonia Sealey and a host of friends and extended family. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 11AM in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, North Suffolk Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Ln, Suffolk, VA 23435. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial and Cremation Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Rd, Suffolk, VA 23435. Friends and family are invited back to the home for a reception. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 2PM to 4PM in the R. W. Baker & Co.
