Obituary of Sarah Catherine (Sara) Britt 14 APR 1862 - 18 JAN 1941 MRS. SARA C. LEWIS Mrs. Sara C. Lewis, widow of the late N.T. Lewis, died at the Riverside Hospital in Newport News. Va., at 12:10 a.m. this morning [18 Jan 1941] after a short illness. She is survived by two sons, I. L. Lewis of Suffolk, and N. T. Lewis of Windsor, Va., five daughters, Mrs. I. Q. Joyner of Fox Hill, Va., Mrs. B. R. Johnson, Portsmouth, Va., Mrs. J. W. Holland of Chuckatuck, Va., [Mrs.] W. L. Hedgepeth of Suffolk, Va., and Mrs. Arthur Oakley, of Newport News, Va., also 21 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one half sister, Mrs. Cleveland Hall of Walters, Va. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Oakley in Newport News, Va. Funeral services will be held aat 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon [19 Jan 1941] at the funeral home of I. O. Hill & Company conducted by the Rev. H. S. Hardcastle and Dr. John G. Truitt. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. Truitt, pastor of Suffolk Christhe tian Church, the Rev. Rufus Corbitt and the Rev. W. L. Lumpkin. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. John G. Truitt, Mrs. Randolph Chapman, R. A. Harrell and James Jernigan, accompanied by Mrs. Craig Wallace, sang "Sometime We'll Understand,' "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "The Home Over There." The casket was covered with pal pall of pink, carnations. Active pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased; Albert Johnson, Orman Johnson, Clifton Johnson, John Joyner, James Mitchell, Nathaniel Holland, Calvin Lewis and Edward Hedgebeth.
