Lassiter December 24, 1918 - November 7, 2016 Boykins- Roy Allan Lassiter, 97, affectionately known as "Pop", passed away November 7, 2016 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Roy was born December 24, 1918 on a farm in Bertie County, NC. He was the fifth son of Clyde T. and Evie Bazemore Lassiter. He was also predeceased by four brothers and their wives, Albert (Jane), Dick (Edwin), Turner (Virginia) and Hassell (Inez). Survivors include his wife of seventy one years, Kitty and their three children: James Bland Lassiter (Brenda), Roy Allan Lassiter, Jr. (Joan Claire) and Kitty Lou Pope (Greg), four grandchildren, Jennifer Osborne, Jessica Henderson (Dave), Bland Pope and Andy Lassiter, five great grandchildren, Grayson, Avery, Tristan, Sophia and Hannah and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Roy was a member of Boykins Baptist Church for more than eighty one years where he held many offices including Honorary Life Deacon. He was a charter member (1946) of the Boykins Lions Club having served as President and Treasurer, a member of American Legion Post 276 serving as Post Commander for five terms, a member of Boykins Masonic Lodge 287 and a Mason for over seventy years. Roy served his country through the entire span of WWII serving as a Captain in the Army Air Corp and a B-24 bomber pilot in the European Theatre. He served the community as the Postmaster for thirty five years and retired in 1981 after more than 40 years of service in the military and postal service. A memorial service with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be held at 2PM Friday, November 11, 2016 at Boykins Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Bunn and the Rev. T. Floyd Irby, Jr. officiating. Burial will be private.
