Lang Jr., almost 70, of Allendale, died on Jan. 21 [2012]. He was born on Sept. 27, 1942. Following graduation from Boston University, he served as a captainwith theUnited States Air Force as a jet fighter pilot in Vietnam. After leaving the service, he earned his master and doctorate degrees from the University of Virginia. After teaching for several years at the University of Virginia, he joined the Human Resource Department of Metropolitan Life Property and Casualty Company as associate director. Subsequently, he worked at the Colonial Penn Group and then Bankers Trust as vice president of human resources, where directed the strategic planning and financial Control units and oversaw the divestiture of AT@T’s $32 billion Savings Plan assets. He next moved to BTBrokerage Corporation, becoming chairman and CEO and directed the development of its bank broker dealer operations. In 1993, he joined National Discount Brokers Group and helped start and develop its discount brokerage firm, NDB, serving as its president and CEO. Under his direction, NDB became one of the nation’s largest discount brokers and was among the first to offer flat-fee pricing. Moving on to WIT Soundview as president of digital trading, he oversaw the development of its online IPO service before arranging its sale to ETrade in 2000. He joined Fleet Securities as executive vice president and continued at Bank of America Specialist, Inc., as senior managing director after Bank of America acquired Fleet Securities in 2004. As president of the company, he was responsible for managing operations and technology personnel, overseeing trading and stock loan borrowing, and managing relations with outside vendors handling clearing operations. He was a parishioner ofGuardian Angel Church in Allendale and a member of Arcola Country Club in Paramus.
