Mrs. Laine was a native of Southampton Co. and was the daughter of the late Hugh Patrick and Roberta Wellons Beale. She was the widow of Arthur C. Laine and was predeceased by her first husband, William A. Bell, who died in 1954. Mrs. Laine worked many years for the Southampton Co. Court System until her retirement in 1978 and was a longtime member of Courtland United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William A., Jr. and Edith Gwaltney Bell of Smithfield; sisters, Louise B. Rogers and Catherine B. Gwaltney, both of Suffolk; three brothers, B. Hubert Beale and E. Warren Beale, both of Courtland and Fletcher Beale of Richmond: two grandchildren, Elizabeth Bell Ulmer of Manhattan, KS and Marguerite Bell of Courtland; three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Courtland United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Wimer and the Rev. Thomas Lee. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland.
