Born on October 6, 1931 in Yale, he was a son of the late Samuel Fenton Kitchen and Marian Swift Kitchen. He was also predeceased by his wife, Janet Whitehead Kitchen; three sisters, Marilyn Vick, Audrey Coppedge, and Adelaide Harrup; and three brothers, Sam Kitchen, Charles Kitchen, and Roger Kitchen. Emerson was a 1951 graduate of Stony Creek High School and a proud Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was a longtime Southampton County farmer and a member of Manry Hunt Club, Sebrell Civic Club and served on the Board of Directors for Farm Bureau. Emerson was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Kay Kimbel Kitchen of Capron; a son, Emerson Benjamin Kitchen, Jr. and his wife Vivian of Sebrell; four grandchildren, Lindsay Smith Angus (Kendall), Stefanie Kitchen Taillon (Jeff), Jordan Elizabeth Smith, Richard B. Kitchen (Katy); a great granddaughter, Avery Evelyn Taillon; two sisters-in-law, Carol Kitchen and Bettie Whitehead; and a close family friend, Joline Kickliter; a special caregiver, Sharon Murphy; and a host of nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 2PM Tuesday, January 23, 2024 in Barn Tavern Cemetery in Sebrell with Pastor Michael Baugham and Pastor Will Sloan officiating.
