Charlie Wilson Kitchen 29 Aug 1903 - 12 Dec 1989 Charlie W. Kitchen WAKEFIELD - Charlie Wilson Kitchen, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. Mr. Kitchen was chief cook for many years at Virginia's annual spring political gathering, the Shad Planking, sponsored by the Wakefield Ruritan Club. A native of Southampton County, he was a retired paint contractor and former caretaker of Airfield Mill Pond, Wakefield. He was a member of Barretts Congregational Christian Church and a charter member of the Wakefield Community Hunt Club and the B & B Hunt Club. Survivors include three daughters, Eunice K. Britt of Bellevue, Ohio, Huntus K. Duke of Dinwiddie and Jackie K. Sullivan of San Antonio, Texas; a son, William E. Kitchen of Midlothian; a sister, Gladys K. Heflin of Midland; a brother, Jasper C. Kitchen of Newport News; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Purviance Funeral Home by Dr. R.E. Brittle. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight in the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
