L. Hancock Sr., died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. M. Lewis, 739 Thirtieth Street, yesterday [15 February 1936] at 2:30 a.m., after an illness of several weeks, while on a visit to this city. Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon [17 February 1936] at 2:30 at the funeral home of W. J. M. Holland and Son in Franklin and burial will be in the Joyner family plot on the Courtland Ivor Highway in Southampton County. Surviving relatives include seven children, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. O. M. Bray of Newport News; Mrs. L. S. Bassett of Smithfield; Mrs. R. L. McClenny of Franklin; R. L. Hancock Jr., M. T., and Jack Hancock, all of Suffolk; also 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, David and Elisha Joyner of Norfolk.
