A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late James Floyd and Annie Johnson Jones. Mr. Jones retired as a pipeline repairman for Columbia Gas. He was also a U.S. Army veteran after serving in the Korean War. He was a dedicated member of Western Branch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. His church participation was the cornerstone of his life. Other memberships include Franklin’s Club 55 and Pin Boys Prime Timers Senior Bowling Leagues. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary W. “Patches” Jones, of Suffolk; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah J. and Andy Cardwell, of Wilmington, NC; and Amy L. Jones and Christopher Register, of Greenville, NC; son and daughter-in-law, R. Wayne and Terri G. Jones, of Windsor; grandchildren, Leigh Ann and Grady Jones, and Sydney and Clayton Register; sister and brother-in-law, Odell and James Everett, of Suffolk; brother, Ollie Jones, of Whaleyville; and sister-in-law, Zelma Jones, of Suffolk. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, 14 August 2004 at 11 a.m. at Western Branch Baptist Church. Rev. David Jendrey and Dr. Ray Jones are officiating. Interment will be at the Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday night [13 August 2004] from 7–8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
