Johnson James Earl Johnson, 75, of 416 Elizabeth St., Suffolk, Va., died Jan. 21, 1997, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Isle of Wight County, Va., he was the son of the late James Hurley and Lula Belle Bradshaw Johnson. He had retired as a mechanic for Norfolk Naval Air Station. He belonged to First Baptist Church, North Main Street. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, May Belle Vann Johnson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Earlene J. Hobbs and O. Kermit Hobbs Jr., Judy Brinkley and Robert W. Brinkley Sr., all of Suffolk; three sisters, Virginia J. Wilkins of Henrico, N.C., Katherine J. Ellis and Hilda J. Morris, both of Suffolk; brothers, George G. Johnson of Chesapeake, Va. and Otis M. Johnson of Grantville, Pa.; four grandsons, Robert W. Brinkley Jr. of Suffolk, Neil T. Hobbs of Forest, Va., Senior Airman Michael L. Brinkley of Pope Air Force Base, N.C., Wade T. Hobbs Harrisonburg, Va.; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria L. Brinkley of Suffolk. A funeral will be conducted Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, at 2 p.m. in Harrell Funeral Home by the Revs. Charles W. Thompson and John Kimball. Entombment will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
