For several years her health has been failing and she has had frequent attacks of illness, but the last attack was so short that her death came as shock. She caught cold on Friday and sank rapidly until she died. She was in her eightieth year. Mrs. Vaughan was formerly Miss Sarah Jenkins, and was native of Hertford county, having been born at what is now known as Mapleton. On June 16th, 1842, she became the wife of the late Col. Urian Vaughan, whom she survived eleven years. She leaves seven children, Mr. T. J. and Mr. U. Vaughan, Mrs. Bettie Barnes, Mrs. B. B. Winborne, and Miss Rosa Vaughan, of Murfreesboro, Mrs. R. H. Stancill of Margarettsville, and Mrs. T. W. Hawkins of Charlotte. One daughter, Mrs. Arps, preceded her to the Morning land. For more than seven years the subject of this sketch has lived at the Vaughan homestead with her daughter, Miss Rosa, whose tender care of her mother and entire forgetfulness of self make her a shining example of filial devotion. Mrs. Vaughan was from early years a member of the Methodist church. She was womanly woman, a kind friend, a wise loving mother, and true child of God. The interment will take place at the Southall cemetery at 11 o'clock this morning. Rev. J. A. Rood will conduct the burial services; and Col. J. M. Wynn, Capt. L. C. Lawrence and Messrs. H. T. Lassiter, T. H. Nicholson, C. T. Vaughan and J. W. Hicks will act as pall bearers. The bereaved family has the deep sympathy of the community.
