Born in Henderson, NC, he was a son of the late George Vernon Jenkins, Sr. and Henrietta Mae Godfrey Jenkins. He was predeceased by his first wife Joyce Redd Jenkins; his second wife Cynthia Way Jenkins; a son Vernon Scott Jenkins; a sister, Etta Mae Young; a brother George V. "Bunny" Jenkins, Jr.; and a brother-in-law Blaine Young. John was an Army veteran and received an Associate’s Degree in Police Science from Paul D. Camp Community College. He was a retired Special Agent with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Investigation. He was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge #151 AF & AM, a member and former deacon of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and a member of Carrsville Ruritan Club. John was a former Virginia National Guardsman and after his retirement from the state he spent time as a deputy sheriff and a bailiff. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 26 years, Audrey Olson Jenkins; a daughter, Tammy Jenkins of Wytheville, VA; two grandchildren, Joyce Elizabeth Jenkins and Scott Tyler Jenkins; a great grandson, Locke; Audrey’s two sons, Troy and Brandon Olson; Audrey’s four grandchildren, Siri, Isabella, Noah, and Holden Olson; and Audrey’s great grandchild, Addie Olson. A State Police Funeral Service with Masonic Rites will be held at 3PM, Sunday, December 10, 2023 in Beaver Dam Baptist Church with Rev. Warren Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.
