Thomas Hypes Obituary Thomas Edward Hypes January 25, 1944 - March 3, 2024 Franklin - Thomas Edward Hypes, 80 passed away March 3, 2024 peacefully at home. Tom was born in Montgomery, WV, grew up in Smithers, WV, and was the son of the late Robert Lee Hypes and Theresa Alma Hess Hypes. He was predeceased by his two sisters, June Hypes Turley and Barbara Hypes Hardy. Tom was a graduate of Montgomery High School in Montgomery, WV. He worked for G. C. Murphy Co. 13 years. He started in the stock room and advanced to store manager. After leaving G.C. Murphy, Tom was employed at Union Camp (International Paper). He began in the wood yard and retired as a pulp mill operator. Tom served as 2nd. Vice-President of United Steel Workers Union, Local 505 and was a Mason for over 50 Years. Tom was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge No.151 AF&AM, Portsmouth Scottish Rite, Norfolk Kedive Shriners, Franklin Shriners, and Whaleyville Chapter 137, Order of the Eastern Star. Tom is survived by his wife of 49 Years Debra Council Hypes, his son Stephen Council Hypes, and two brothers-in-law that were like sons, David C. Council, III (Janet) and Mark E. Council (Cindy). Tom is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service with Masonic Rites will be held Wednesday, March 6, at 11AM, in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Askew officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to a charity of your choice.
