He was 79. Mr. Hobbs, who died Saturday, also donated the land for the Suffolk campus of Paul D. Camp Community College. After serving in the Navy in World War Il, Mr. Hobbs worked for a company that made peanut machinery before leaving in 1963 to help create Hobbs-Adams Engineering Co., now AMADAS Industries. He retired in 1989. Mr. Hobbs is survived by his wife, Frances; a son, Kermit Jr.; a daughter, Cynthia H. Baker; three sisters and four grandsons.
