Joyner HOLLAND — Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Joyner, 78, died Tuesday afternoon [5 May 1959] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Gardner, near here, after several months of failing health. She was the widow of John Arrington Joyner, and a lifelong resident of Southampton County. She was a member of the Sedley Baptist Church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Harriet Drewry of Franklin; Mrs. Belle Raiford of Sedley; Mrs. Mary Gardner of Holland, and Mrs. Doris Vick of Miami, Fla.; one son, John Thomas Joyner of Blackstone; four sisters, Mrs. L. H. Davis, Jr., and Mrs. R. S. Berry, both of Norfolk; Mrs. Eugene Johnson of Newport News; and Mrs. W. O. Shifflett of Haverton, Md.; two brothers, L. H. Hatfield of Norfolk and M. C. Hatfield of Suffolk; her stepmother, Mrs. Berta C. Rabey of Norfolk; grandchildren and great-grand–children. Funeral services were conducted today (Thursday [7 May 1959] ) at 3:30 p. m. at the Holland Funeral Chapel, Franklin, by the Rev. Len B. Allen, pastor of Black Creek Baptist Church, and the Rev. R. P. Chappell of Portsmouth. Burial was in Rosemont cemetery, Sedley. Pallbearers were James Hatfield, Alvin Hatfield, Julian Bryley, Harvey Darden, Earvin Blythe, Fenton Vick, Aubrey Lankford and Fleetwood Turner.
