Drowns In Pond Victim Listed From Suffolk PORTSMOUTH - A 21-year-old Suffolk visitor drowned while swimming with friends in a farm pond Monday afternoon. Lanzy Otto Harrell Jr. of 229 Holladay St., Suffolk, disappeared under the water about 3:30 p.m. His body was recovered by rescue squads from the city Fire Department and the Western Branch Volunteer Fire Department at about 5:30 p.m. VISITING UNCLE Harrell was visiting an uncle, C. A. Crawford of 33 Cherokee Rd., according to Sgt. C.S. Daniels of the police detective bureau. The pond is in the rear of the house, on land formerly known as the Old Crawford Farm, now being subdivided. Daniels estimated the pond to be an acre or more in. area. Fed by springs and 20 feet deep, it is the larger of two on the property. They were dug about 10 years ago and stocked with fish. Harrell and his friends--several boys -were diving off a homemade plank raft and swimming, police said. The boys reported that before police were called they went down after Harrell but were unable to locate him. Assisting in the investigation were police Capt. E. T. Facenda, Capt. A. L. Kelly, and Patrolman J. B. Rose. Harrell is survived by his father, Lanzy Otto Harrell, and his mother, Dorthy Pruitt Harrell, both of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. E. E. Fitzhugh of Homestead, Fla., and Miss Ruth Hope of Suffolk; a brother, Mark B. Harrell, also of Suffolk and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ada Ruth Pruitt, also of Suffolk.
