A native of Southampton County, he had lived in Newport News for several years. He served with the First Cavalry Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lesia Bea Hancock of Tucson; four sisters, Mrs. Lillian Lewis and Mrs. Lucy Bray, both of Newport News, Mrs. T. of Smithfield and Clenny of Franklin, and one brother, R.
