Two young men drown off Morgarts Beach

NEWPORT NEWS, 17 August (AP) - Two young men, Kenneth Gwalthney and Willie Bulls, of Mill Swamp Road, near Smithfield, were drowned off Morgarts Beach yesterday afternoon. Gwalthney's body was recovered at 9 o'clock this morning, floating about two miles offshore in the vicinity of the James River Bridge.

Search was being pushed for Bulls' body. Gwalthney was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Gwalthney, prominent residents of Isle of Wight County. Bulls had been employed by the Gwalthneys.

Gwalthney, who was about 34 years old, and Bulls, who was about 30, were on a fishing trip. Sheriff W. C. Whitehead of Isle of Wight County advanced the theory that one of the young men fell overboard and the other made an effort to rescue him by leaping overboard.
