William Grossmann 30 Apr 1910 - 23 Jul 1978 Funeral Service Set For Franklin Doctor PETERSBURG- Dr. William Grossman, 68, who practiced medicine in Petersburg and Franklin and was a past president of the Medical Society of Virginia, died Sunday at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Dr. Grossman, a Chesterfield County native who lived in Franklin, was a practicing pediatrician from 1947 to 1970. He served as the chairman of the Governor's Advisory Committee on Medicare and Medicaid, and was a former president of the Petersburg and Franklin Rotary Clubs. He was an elder in the Tabb Street and the Covenant Presbyterian churches and served as a Petersburg city councilman from 1957 to 1961. Dr. Grossman also was a former chief of staff at Petersburg General Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Whitley Grossman of Franklin; five sons, Dr. William Grossman Jr. of New York City, Dr. Robert Leigh Grossman of Petersburg, James T. Grossman of Washington, D.C., William Hunter Scott Jr. of Franklin and David T. Lawrence of Philadelphia; a daughter, Mrs. Hunter Scott Ashe of Franklin, and two sisters, Mrs. E. Neil Titus and Mrs. Calvin B. Branch, both of Petersburg. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hunterdale Christian Church in Franklin, with burial at 4 p.m. in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg.
