J.R. Gayle, Carrollton - James Rollie Gayle, 80, of Route 1, Carrollton, died Saturday in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after a short illness.  

A native of Nansemond County, he was a member and honorary deacon of Oakland Christian Church and a member of the I.W. Johnson Bible Class.  

Survivors include three brothers, Nurney Gayle of Eclipse, Phonzer Gayle and C. Swanson Gayle, both of Carrollton, and three grandchildren.  

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Oakland Christian Church by the Rev. William Everhart. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
