Obituary of Charles Bernard (Bunny) Folger Sr 12 Nov 1921 - 21 Nov 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Charles Bernard "Bunny" Folger Charles Bernard "Bunny" Folger, 88, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia "Bunny" was the youngest and last surviving child of William Clayton Folger and Lily May Doane Murphy Folger of Savannah, Georgia. A graduate of Savannah High School and of Armstrong College, he served as a Warrant Officer with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a letter carrier in Savannah for many years and continued his federal service with the Internal Revenue Service, transferring to Atlanta in 1958. He was on the Director's Staff of IRS's Southeastern Regional Service Center in Chamblee until his retirement in 1978. He was awarded the Albert Gallatin Award, The United States Department of the Treasury's highest career service award. Bunny was an avid lover of Savannah history and remained in touch with beloved classmates through the Happy Geechee reunions. In Atlanta, he was active among IRS retirees and enjoyed bowling for many years as a member of the "Holifolis" team. He was a proud member of the Hibernian Society of Savannah and joyfully attended the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Hibernian banquet annually, until stricken by Guillain Barre Syndrome in 2003. He was renowned for his wonderful sense of humor by all who knew him. In 1948, Bunny married Betty Jocelyn Schaupp, also a graduate of Savannah High School and a music educator and church organist who died in November 2006. He was predeceased by all of his beloved sisters and brothers and also by an infant son, Robert Conrad Folger. He is survived by his daughters Susan O'Leary (Donal), Atlanta, and Bee Pennington (Bob) of Key West, FL, and by his son, Charles Bernard Folger, Jr. (Na) of Faison, NC. He is also survived by his granddaughters Kimberly Pennington of Philadelphia and Kelly Pennington of Tallahassee; his grandsons Charles Bradley Folger of Richmond, VA, and Perry Randall Folger of Faison, NC. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family extends sincere thanks and appreciation to the dedicated staff and fellow residents at Sunrise at Buckhead and to the kind caregivers of Compassionate Care Hospice, as well as to his doctors and nurses. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 28th at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road NE, in Atlanta.
