Carleton Dewey English, 93, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2020. Carleton was proud to have served his country as a Naval Veteran of WWII and he loved the Flag. Carleton was one of 9 children. He was predeceased by his parents Vercinia A. English and Admiral Dewey "AD" English; sisters, Virginia Brett, Jean Allen and Betty Ann English; brothers, William L. English, James L. English, Edward H. English and Irving English. Carleton is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 72 years, Joyce English; son, David English and his wife, Pam; grandchildren, Alec Carleton English and Krystine Nicole Smith and husband Chris Collins; sister, Sarah "Betty" Donlan and her husband, Ken. Carleton was very involved in numerous Masonic orders he served as a three time Past Master of Tidal Wave Lodge # 273 in 1970, 1992 and 2009. In 2009 while he was serving as the Master of his lodge, his son was serving as the District Deputy. During that year Carleton enjoyed traveling with his son to his official visits. He served as Past District Deputy Grand Master for 34th Masonic District in 1985. He served as Past President of the Past Masters Club. He was a 50-year Mason and this was a proud time in his life as his son presented him with his 50 year Masonic pin and his grandson pinned it on his lapel. He was a 33rd degree Mason, a member of the Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies and served on several committees. Carleton was involved in DeMolay and Job’s Daughters. Carleton retired as a Transportation Specialist after 31 years of service at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a former member of Western Branch Baptist Church and former deacon and member of the Parker Bible Class. He spent countless hours with his son at Churchland Little League and served on the Little League Committee. Carleton never met a stranger and helped countless people throughout his life. Carleton loved woodworking and shared his passion with his grandson Alec. A funeral service with Masonic Rites will be held at 11 am Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Westhaven Baptist Church with his nephew, Reverend Greg English, officiating.
