Born on 29 October 1947 in Savannah, GA, she was a daughter of the late Berties DeWitt Odum, Sr. and the late Mary Alice Davis Mathis. Starr absolutely loved life. She worked hard and played hard. She was at her best when with her family. She enjoyed cooking for friends and family and was considered the best cook in the family. People were drawn to her during gatherings. She could bring out the best in her family and friends. She was a loving mom and role model for her children. Her grandkids affectionately called her “Granny Starr” and begged to visit or stay overnight. More than one person has said that they would want to be reincarnated as one of Starr’s pets. She enjoyed several different sports over the years including softball, snow skiing, and bowling. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time on the beach. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas. She loved to decorate her home and spend time with her family, especially the young ones.
