George C. Edwards Sr., 66, of Newport News, died Monday in Riverside Hospital.  

Born in Southampton County and a Peninsula resident for 36 years, he was a World War II Army veteran. He was employed for 12 years as a mechanic at Norfolk Naval Air Station in a Civil Service position until he retired in 1980. He was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church and its choir and United Methodist Men.  

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty Ann Walters and Mrs. Norma Jean Jones, and a son, George C. Edwards Jr., all of Newport News; his stepmother, Mrs. Effer Edwards of Courtland; three sisters, Miss Ruth B. Edwards, Mrs. Janie W. Wood, and Mrs. Susie L. Eason, all of Franklin; two brothers, Ryland W. Edwards of Newport News and B.L. Edwards of Courtland; and four grandchildren.  

A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Morrison United Methodist Church by the Rev. Herbert A. Moyer.  

Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.  

The family will receive friends at Peninsula Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight and requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Morrison United Methodist Church.
