William J. Donovan

Suffolk - William "Joe" Donovan, 55, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Maryview Medical Center. He was the son of Joyce Ann Donovan and the late William F. Donovan. 

Joe was an admired coach for the AYSO Black Sox soccer team from 1999- 2003. He also served 36 proud years of employment at the Newport News Ship Yard. Joe never met a stranger nor an enemy. 

Besides his mother Ann of Portsmouth Joe is survived by his wife of 29 years Mary "Molly" Donovan; daughters Virginia Smith and husband Bobby, and Katie Donovan; son Alton Donovan all of Suffolk; sisters Laurie Rosenthal, husband Keith and three children of Charlotte, NC and Tracy Holland, husband Kenny, and three children of Surry. 

A funeral service will be held at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk on Tuesday September 23, 2014 at 11 AM with Rev. Neal Sasser officiating. Burial will follow the service at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday September 21, 2014 from 4 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society, PO Box 5038, Suffolk VA 23435. Condolences may be registered at bakerfoster.com.
