Mr. Herbert Wayne Dillard Sr., 82, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at his home. Mr. Dillard was born on February 19, 1930 in West Jefferson, NC to Burl Ray and Tincie Black Dillard. Mr. Dillard served in the US Navy between 1948 and 1952 during the Korean Conflict as a seaman. He was also a member of the Union Associates' Plumber and Pipe Fitters Local 421; in addition, he was a member of the Moose Club for over 20 years and a Mason for 15 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Scott Dillard; and his brother John Glenn Dillard. Mr. Dillard is survived by two sons, Herbert W. Dillard Jr. and wife Sharon of Germanton, and Richard Lee Dillon and wife Cindy of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Rhonda Lynn Smith and husband Jeff of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Kimberly and husband Gary Dean, Brandy and husband Brad Moore, both of Germanton, Jessup Dillard of Winston-Salem, Skyler and Noah Smith of GA; two great-grandchildren, Rylan Sturgill and Kieran Dean; and a sister, Ruby Lum. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Hopewell Moravian Church. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
