DEY, Russell "Russ" Carlyle Jr., 86, of Reedville and Arlington, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2011 after a long illness. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Carter Dey. He is survived by his daughter, Gwen Dey Clarke and husband, Gareth Clarke of Atlanta, Georgia; and his son, Ed Dey of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Dey was born on March 9, 1925 in Reedville, Virginia and was the son of the late Russell Carlyle Dey Sr. and Jane Marsh Dey Fitchett. He was affectionately known as "Udney" or "Ud" in his home town. Mr. Dey was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II as a fighter pilot. He remained active as a pilot in the Air Force Reserve unit (756th Squadron) based at Andrews Air Force Base until the early 1970s. In the private sector, he worked for New York Life Insurance Company and National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) prior to his retirement. In retirement years, both Mr. Dey and his wife had a part time business selling "collectibles" in an antique mall in old town Fredericksburg, Va. They enjoyed combing flea markets and auctions, looking for "collectibles" to sell in their respective shops. Mr. Dey travelled the world as a pilot, but always relished his Northern Neck roots. He enjoyed life on and around the water and the fresh seafood that came with the territory. Mr. Dey will be remembered for his passion for flying, love for "collectibles," and entertaining style of piano playing (all by ear) and his unique sense of humor. The family will receive friends at Bethany United Methodist Church in Reedville, Virginia on Saturday, August 13 from 1 until 2 p.m. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2 p.m. with burial at Roseland Cemetery immediately after.
