Mrs. Martha Davis Brett, 61, of Yorktown, died March 9 at Riverside Hospital, Newport News, after a long illness.

Mrs. Brett was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., and lived on the Peninsula 36 years. She was operator and manager of Nippy's Motel, Buckroe, before becoming manager of the John-Dell Motel, Suffolk, five years ago.

Survivors include her husband, John L. Brett; two sons, J. Douglas Stitzel of Yorktown and Paul M. Stitzel of Newport News; her mother, Mrs. Annie S. Davis of Hampton; two brothers, Norfleet Davis of Elizabeth City, and Leland Davis of Plant City, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Nina Ceglarski of Hampton, Mrs. Ruth Lloyd of Norfolk, and Mrs. Lorraine Sharber and Mrs. Lelia Meads, both of Elizabeth City; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, with the Rev. Robert E. Lee of Phoebus Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
