A. Darden died at his home in the Sycamore community Wednesday morning, April 27, aged 69 years, following a long and painful illness from internal cancer. He was a kind and helpful neighbor, a useful citizen in his community, and a faithful member of Sycamore Baptist Church. The patience and Christian fortitude with which he bore his intense suffering was truly remarkable and gave every indication of a mind resigned to the will of the Heavenly Father. Wiggins and Miss Annie Laurie Darden of Franklin; three brothers, Robert and Rufus Darden of Franklin and Richard Darden of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. W.M. Cobb and Mrs. Josephine Vaughan of Franklin, besides a wide circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from Sycamore Church Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by Rev. E. Norfleet Gardner, assisted by Reverends L.F. Paulette, M.A. Maclean, and C.H. Rowland. The interment was made in the cemetery of the church, the active pallbearers being his four sons, Joe, Redelle, Hunter, and Theon; son-in-law I.Q. Wiggins; and nephew Eddie Vaughan. The honorary pallbearers were a number of friends of the deceased of the town and community, a large concourse of people assembling to pay the last tribute of respect to their friend and neighbor.
