(Special) Richard Darden, 82, well-known former resident of Southampton County, died today [11 Mar 1937] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. T. Harrell, of Holland, with whom he had made his home since the death of his wife 25 years ago. Besides his daughter, he is survived by three sons, Walter Darden, of New York; J. W. Darden, of Boykins; and J. C. Darden, of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday [12 Mar 1937] afternoon at 3 o'clock at Sycamore Baptist Church, of which he was one of the charter members, by the Rev. N. G. Newman of Holland; the Rev. Floyd P. Davis; and the Rev. W. H. Corbitt. Interment will be in the church cemetery. [1900 Federal Census says born Nov 1854.
