Hettie Jenkins Crandol NEWPORT NEWS- Hettie Jenkins Crandol, a native of Newport News, passed away on September 9, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Tilford Crandol. Mrs. Crandol was engaged in aeronautical research for McGraw-Hill Publishing Co. of New York for nine years. She was rental manager for ten years of Warwick Gardens, a six-hundred apartment project, one of the first apartment projects on the Peninsula. It was built in 1949 by Drucker & Faulk Realtors of Newport News, Va. She was employed in the inventory division of the purchasing department, Newport News Shipyard Dry Dock Co. for six years, and for awhile, as a hostess for Colonial Williamsburg, Va. Mrs. Crandol served as assistant librarian for the Christian Science Reading Room, Hampton, Va., for five years. She was an active Guild Member of the Peninsula Fine Arts Center of Newport News for ten years. Mrs. Crandol was a member of The First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, Mass. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. After cremation, her remains will be secured in the family vault. Riverside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
