C. Tilford Crandol, 72, 9704 River Road, Newport News, died Friday in Riverside Hospital after a long illness. A native of Newport News, he was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was a retired employe of Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. and Nachman's Department Store. He was a graduate of Blackstone Military Academy and a member of Peninsula Lodge No. 278 AF&AM. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Hettie J. Crandol. A private service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Smith Cemetery, York County, by the Rev. Guy Webb of First Baptist Church.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to a favorite charity. Riverside Funeral Home is in charge.
