Rachel Cox Obituary Rachel L. Cox Chesapeake - After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Rachel Lee Cox, 45, passed away in her sleep on Sunday July 6, 2014. The valedictorian of the 1987 class of Churchland High School in Portsmouth Va., she was the daughter of George H. and Lois C. Brisbin. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 1992 with a degree in mechanical engineering and went on to have a successful career that included positions at the City of Virginia Beach, City of Portsmouth and the Virginia Department of Transportation. Rachel was a devoted wife, loving mother and caring friend. She was driven by her love of family and her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. As she chronicled her battle with cancer over the years she became an inspiration to many. Her determination to beat the deadly disease was surpassed only by her unwillingness to give in to it. She fought right up until her last days, reminding us all of how precious life truly is and more importantly, how short it can be. In addition to her parents, Rachel is survived by her husband, Brant M. Cox; son, Christopher Cox; daughter, Katherine Cox; two brothers, John B. and George A. Brisbin; one sister, Ruth A. Brisbin; mother-in-law Patricia A. Cox and father-in-law Ronald M. Cox. A funeral service will be held at 11 a. m. Friday July 11, 2014 in Point Harbor Community Church, 2705 Taylor Road, Chesapeake, VA 23321 by Pastor Tom Tuttle. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p. m. in Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, VA.
